How to ride the social media wave

Mar 29, 2009
By: Guy Allon

We have entered the era of the web 2.0 and for those who never really got it, never understood it and decided to ignore it STOP right there!

And stop thinking that way! Embrace this moment because now is the chance for you to emerge in the social media scene. If you miss this opportunity then you'll be kicking yourself for not starting it sooner. This is your opportunity to get in while it's still in its infancy, at ground level.

Social media is the hottest area of web development at the moment. It has the highest valuation and is worth a lot of money.

I have recently listened in to a webinar spoken by Perry Belcher, a cracker of a guy (in British terms it means outstanding ;-)) who runs one of many websites called winning at social media. In it, he talks about how social media transcends everything that media stands for today, including the internet and how major advertisement companies are clawing at ways to make social media work for them since they see it as a giant tidal wave waiting to be unleashed but are still unsure of how to use it.

Perry Blecher went on to say that social media is becoming such a powerful force that as an individual it gives you a greater advantage over a lot of companies out there who are looking to spend a lot of money on it. According to statistics only 16 about you and 20% about what you do. Your house (blog) should convey to your friends the type of person that you are by the pictures that you hang on your walls, the sports gear you store in your closet, the DVD collection you have on your shelves and the type of food you store in your fridge (yummy). In other words share with your audience your interests and passions in life. Humanize yourself and allow your visitors to get to know the real you first and foremost.

Once you establish a rapport with your visitors and they get to know you a whole lot better wait for them to ask you what it is that you do. Then and only then you can begin promoting whatever it is you are looking to promote in the first place. Patience is the key to networking wisely.

So now that you are ready to get socially networking it's time to find out about the next step to riding the social media waves...

To do that please click on the link below to visit my blog and find out more :-)

Having recently set up his own blog, Guy Allon, a film producer by trade, is on a mission to convert those out there who are new to the web 2.0 concept to get their own blogs up and running and onto the path of success. Visit his blog at http://guysword.com

Laser Hair Removal Problems

Mar 21, 2009
By: Shane Ennerson
With bikini season not far away, many women are getting ready. Emily Hovind envisioned not having to shave again, but instead found her experience with laser hair removal was anything but hair-free.

Being in the military and stationed all over the country, Hovind says she thought American Laser Centers would work for her.

"They had locations in all the places I was going to be moving because I move around a lot," she explained.

She paid American Laser Centers in full a little more than $2,100 in exchange for hair-free, smooth legs.

"It says hair free in six sessions," she said.

It's that two year guarantee that Hovind felt good about. It says "if any hair grows in the treated area, we'll remove it for free."

The problem for Hovind was even after 6 treatments she wasn't happy.

"I've had no results whatsoever from anything. About the third or fourth treatment, I started asking questions. That's when they said 'Maybe it will be eight instead of six. Maybe it will be 10 instead of that. Oh, the next one will be a double pass,'" Hovind recalled.

In all, Hovind says she went through 10 laser hair removal treatments on her legs, with the tenth one being a double pass.

"I started asking for a refund, and they said 'Oh, we need a medical review. Oh, we have to try double passes,'" said Hovind.

Hovind did not want any more treatments, as she said they're painful and even after 10 treatments still no results.

"They promised me a service and a result and it hasn't happened at all," she told Troubleshooter Diane Wilson.

Hovind called not only her local office of American Laser Centers but the corporate office too and got nowhere, so she turned to Wilson.

Wilson got in touch with American Laser Centers and they issued a statement which said in part:

"Our records indicate that all of the timing and number of treatment protocols have not been followed by Ms. Hovind, however we will provide her a 50 percent refund or the opportunity to continue treatments under our protocol for an additional two years.

Hovind opted for the 50 percent refund and recently received it. In American Laser Center's contract, it does state the fees are nonrefundable, and that results may vary for clients.

Internet Speed Test - Review and Info

Mar 18, 2009
By: Mary Prysler
The Internet has changed our life entirely. This new technology has become a major element which influences all that we do at work and at home. Hence we can say that our entire activity depends on the Internet speed, because according to this we can spend more or less time to accomplish what we intended to do. Since we live in a speedy century, we all are looking for a very high Internet speed, but this is not always an easy deal.

The first step is to learn how to find out what your Internet speed is. The Internet speed is determined by 2 components: the download rate and the upload rate of data which are usually measured in Kilobits per second. The download speed is the most important because we usually transfer files from Internet to our computer, but there are cases when we need a high upload speed.

We may test our internet speed in the manual way, by calculating the time our computer needs to transfer a file of a known size, but this is the old method.

The new way to determine our internet speed is to access a service that allows us to run a test through their servers by sending our computer an information packet which our computer will send it back to them. In this way the site measures the time our computer needed to download and upload the information packet and informs us the internet speed of our bandwidth.

By this test we measure the actual speed of the Internet and in the same time the real internet speed of our access to the internet. The actual speed limit is the amount of useful data that your internet connection can transmit and receive in a second. On the other side, the real internet speed includes also non-significant information. But when we make the test, only the actual speed is measured, the real internet speed is not important in this calculation.

Now that we know what our internet speed is, let's see what we can do to improve it. The first solution is to install optimization software. If you have a Dial-Up connection and use Windows 98 or Me, click Start, Settings, and then Control Panel. Right click on the Modems icon and from Properties tab choose the General tab. Use the Maximum Speed Drop-Down menu to select 115200. If this setting causes your Modem to no longer connect, change it to 57600. Windows XP users should click Start, Control Panel and switch to classic view. Double-click the Phone and Modem options and choose the Modem tab. Change the maximum settings port speed to 115200 and if the Modem responds badly or not at all, change the speed to 57600.

Broadband users should think of using a tweak utility such as TCP Optimizer. After downloading the software we must run it and make a backup of our current settings. Save the backup, and follow the instructions in the software to optimize our broadband speed. Don't forget to click apply changes and click Yes if the software ask you to re-boot the computer. Now our computer should run faster. If the new settings do not satisfy you, return to the program and restore your back up settings. If you failed to make a backup, restore Windows default settings.

And the last solution would be to change your internet provider with a better and reliable one. We may choose from a large scale of opportunities. There is no reason to waste our time with a lazy internet speed when we can spend our precious time with a high-speed internet connection.

Putting Your Site Up On the Internet

Mar 17, 2009
By: Christine Anderssen
Getting your website successfully displayed on the internet can be a daunting and difficult task. Your safest bet is to seek the advice of someone more experienced to assist you in setting it up correctly. The best person for this job is probably a good web design company.

A good web design company will have the software and support necessary to assist you in building your site. The web design companies normally have the knowledge and experience of the industry necessary to give you the best advice on which hosting company to use. Some web design companies also offer web hosting as a service to boot, which is advantageous from the perspective of managing both your website design and web hosting from one source. The disadvantage of this on the other hand, is that you are then tied into one service provider. If your relationship with the web design company sours, you are then tied into using their hosting services and they might have more control over your site than you are comfortable with.

If you have the inclination and the time, you may be interested in designing your own website. In that case, you only need to source a good web hosting company who will assist you in finding the right server to use for your website. The web host will then be able to help you with the other aspects of your web hosting, such as putting your site up onto the internet.

One of the most obvious benefits of working with a web hosting provider is that you will always have experienced technicians backing you up. There can be confusing technical difficulties that arise, especially when you are not very well versed in computers and the internet. Having a good, reliable web hosting provider will give you the backup you need. It is important to ensure that your hosting provider offers round the clock support. Most hosting providers will offer you email addresses with your package, and there are many technical problems that can arise with email. You will need to have a good reliable hosting support contact person who is available to assist you whenever you have a problem.

There are many web hosting providers out there, who will offer a variety of different hosting packages. Some will come with more email address options than others, and the variety of benefits can differ. It is all about shopping around and sourcing good information pertaining to your website's needs and your needs as a client.

Stand Alone ID Card Laminators

Mar 14, 2009
By: Daisy Mccarty
Companies often use an existing desktop printer to create photo IDs on heavy card stock. Lamination is an excellent way to improve the appearance and longevity of these badges. To make this work, you will need a few supplies to go along with your laminator:

1. Basic ID creation software. This type of program can be linked to your HR files for easy information transfer. It can also be used to make visitor passes.

2. A digital camera for taking headshots. A tripod and backdrop are also nice to have.

3. A hole or slot punch. This will enable you to attach badge clips and/or lanyards to your IDs. Use thick lamination pouches (10 mil or higher) to create credentials that are sturdy enough to handle hole punching.

Optional: If you are using full sheets to laminate multiple badges at one time, you will need a corner rounder. This trimming device clips the sharp corners off of each card and gives them a uniform appearance. If you are using individual badge pouches, you won't need this item.

Popular Laminators

These 2 models are good examples of entry level and high end laminators respectively. They are both "carrier free". This means you can run materials through the heated rollers without using a protective card stock carrier. These machines come with a 2 year warranty.

Model KL-10A

This is a compact small business or home office unit designed for low volume use. It features temperature control and 4 rollers for even feeding. You will find it convenient for laminating everything from government documents to business cards, luggage tags, and photographs. This machine accepts materials up to 10.2" wide and up to 10 mil thick.

Model KL-12HR

This unit is designed for frequent, high volume use. It can handle documents 12" wide and up to 20 mil thick making it one of the most versatile desktop laminators on the market. Temperature adjustment, speed control, and reverse switch features come standard on this machine. These allow you to fine tune your lamination process to handle a wide variety of materials.

Plastic Card Lamination Information

You can use a laminator to enhance 10 mil plastic bar-coded cards. Use a "wrapped" rather than a bar-sealed pouch for these cards if they will be swiped through a reader. A wrapped pouch is made of a single folded piece of laminate rather than two pieces glued together. This renders the leading edge highly resistant to wear and tear. You can use a peel & stick hologram laminate (such as the one manufactured by Zebra) to add a topcoat to magnetic stripe cards if you wish. Just don't stick it on the side of the card that has the stripe on it.

Encoded cards should not be run through a traditional desktop laminator since this can cause damage to the data device. If you place a custom order for encoded cards, have these laminated by the vendor as part of their process. Don't try to do it yourself. RFID access devices contain an antenna that should not have too much pressure or heat applied to it. Smart chips must not be laminated over or the contact surface will not be available for docking. ID card printing companies use reverse thermal transfer printers specifically designed to print, encode, and protect such cards in a single pass. The Fargo HDP5000 is a good example of this type of equipment.

Note on Operation: Remember that it takes 4-5 minutes for laminators to heat up before they are ready for use. It is tempting to walk away and tend to other tasks during this prep time. However, you might forget that you turned the equipment on and come back later to find it has been running for hours unattended. This causes unnecessary wear and tear on machines that should last for many years if they are properly maintained.

Check out ID Superstore for low prices on plastic card printing. Also save money on id supplies such as custom printed lanyards.

Home Video

Mar 10, 2009
By: Alex Scott

Many of us have old video recordings we'd like to remember as life events. They are on outdated cassettes and disks requiring noise reduction, brightness adjustment and recording compactly to 1 medium like DVD or Blu-Ray as a whole.

While 15-20 years ago such a task would be rather laborious, now it's well done with modern computer power. Latest video editor versions work miracles by improving image quality, for example, via a noise filter or enabling to adjust color, lay extra effects on video and use additional sound tracks like with comments or pleasant music. Here're some popular video editors with rich features to handle video and audio.

* Adobe Premiere Pro & Adobe Premiere Elements
* Ulead Video Studio & Ulead Media Studio
* Pinacle Studio
* Vegas Movie Studio

To this end, you'll need an installed video editor, enough hard disk space and a video capture board if you don't have previously recorded video like in AVI. If you did it before but the disk turned scratched, you'll have to copy it on the hard disk and then do AVI fix by using video editor features or a video fixer like Digital Video Repair or DivFix++.

Processing your recordings requires the following steps:

1. Record video with the best possible quality for subsequent processing if you haven't done this before. Use a Motion JPEG family video codec or the like.
2. Do initial edit by cutting out movie parts not planned for a final version. Use the cut operation to remove unwanted image pieces.
3. Set image brightness and contrast to make the picture more pleasant and improve subsequent video filter operation.
4. For images recorded from analog sources like VHS tapes, use a filter to do deinterlacing operation to remove the image comb effect.
5. In case of video noise, use a noise filter to improve its quality and compress an output file.
6. Resize a bit smaller to improve the result and output file size.
7. Lay necessary special effects to transfer from 1 plot to another.
8. If needed, add extra sound tracks with background music or comments.
9. Choose a video and audio compression format and record the result on the hard disk.
10. Burn the final video to an optical disk like DVD and make up its box.

For a better compression format, mind that if you want to show you movie to the friends from a stationary player, be careful in choosing audio and video codecs. Most contemporary video players support the AVI format with MPEG-4 (DivX, Xvid) compression unlike such computer formats as MP4, MKV, OGM and H.264 (upgraded MPEG-4) which provides far better compressed video quality with lower bitrates but fits few players. The most common audio codec is MP3 (MPEG Layer 3).

Pay special attention to choosing an optical disk for recording. For the longest life time, pick up a branded disk with an extra scratch-proof layer. If you have to transport the disk often, make sure the box is suitable fixating the disk tightly to prevent possible hit consequences when in motion.

Not to get lost in large disk collections, use cataloguer software and properly signed disk covers. So you can always find a necessary disk quickly and have other extra info without looking through all the recorded disks.

Approach preparing video creatively to get a quality result worth seeing in the family and showing to friends and acquaintances in your home.

Alex has great experience dealing with video. He advises using plugins for noise reduction against poor image quality and problematic playback of avi fix software.

Why Is It Important To Do A Broadband Test?

By: Cindy Heller
A broadband test will determine the best type of service for your computer as well as whether the internet is coming through on your computer without any problems. Frequent broadband tests will determine if you need anything updated as well s acquiring information that will allow your computer to continue running in the best condition.

Broadband test is also used to make sure your anti virus software is properly installed so that your computer is not subjected to incoming viruses or worms that can damage or even cause a computer to crash. Nowadays, there are so many malicious viruses that can wipe your hard drive clean, getting rid of all the information you had stored. This can be especially serious when you are in the business world and depend on this information for your income earning.

The first thing you will need to do, after purchasing a computer, is to load a reliable anti-virus software. There are many such software online and can be downloaded straight from the site. You will need to pay for this, usually on a yearly basis, with a credit card. A broadband test will ensure that you have kept this program updated as there are so many harmful worms and viruses being created on a daily basis. You can never know that an email with an attached download does not have a hidden worm or virus. Not only should your anti-virus program be updated on a regular basis but all other programs will need this done.

A broadband test will make sure you have kept your updates up-to-date. This should also include creating back up files. You can never know that something unexpected could happen and all of your data lost in a blink of an eye. Back up folders will store all of your information just in case the worst does happen.

Another scenario could happen when the electricity goes out. If you are working on a document and have not saved it, a backup folder will save it for you. You entire effort will not have been lost.

Using the services of a broadband test is very important. It is a way of knowing that you have all of your computer programs in running order so that no unexpected surprises occur that will cause additional expenses. By taking advantage of broadband testing, you will be able to keep problems to a minimum before they become bigger problems to the point all data might be lost which had been stored in your computer.

Are All Money Making Systems Scams?

Mar 8, 2009
By: Earl Stringer
If you have been looking for ways to make some money online, then I'm sure you have seen a million different programs and systems that claim that they can make you tons and tons of money online. The truth of the matter is, that many of these make money systems are complete scams. If you are one of those people that have been duped in to buying one or more of these scams, you probably are asking yourself "Are all money making systems scams?". This article will answer this question, and provide a little advice on this at times misunderstood topic.

When a person first decides that they want to learn how to make money online the first thing that they usually will do is do a simple Google search on say "how to make money online". After hitting the search button they will see millions of results .You will see so many results that you may become overwhelmed to the point of confusion. All you are seeing at this points are ads with some pretty appealing headlines such as "Make $100,000 In 30 Days" or "Get Rich Today!" type of ads. If you are a newbie to the internet money making game you most likely may fall for some of these ads, and who could blame you.

Here is my first piece of advice when it comes to looking for a real money making system. I would stay away from the systems that have outrageous claims like the one's listed below. I can guarantee you that these type of programs has a pretty expensive price tag to go along with all of the hype. In most cases these programs are strictly designed to take the money of internet money making newbies. Yes, it is true that many of the so called "money making systems" are scams, there are systems out there that really do work. These are the one's that usually offer realistic goals and reasonable price tags.

Listed below are what you should look for when searching for a legit money making system.

Realistic Goals - Like I said above, stay away from those ridiculous claims that just sound way to good to be true. These types are programs are probably rip offs that will teach you absolutely nothing.

Reasonable Price - There are real money making systems out there that cost less then $100. I have used very effective money making systems that have cost me under $50. Programs that are charging hundreds and even thousands of dollars are probably not worth it at all. The only time people spend that type of cash is when they are going to big time seminars or workshops.

Money Back Guarantee - Most good money making systems will come with a money back guarantee. This is the most important thing to me, because this will allow you to try out the program to see if it really works. There is nothing wrong with trying out a program, and if it doesn't work for you, get your money back.

So in closing, to answer the question "Are all money making systems scams?", and the answer is no they are not. There are some legit systems out there that really do work. Just take a little time to do some research.

Create a Website For Your Dollar Store Business

By Bob Hamilton
The day of claiming you don't know the internet and therefore don't need a business website is long gone. So too is the excuse that you are just a dollar store business so no website is needed. In today's marketplace shoppers routinely refer to the internet when they have questions about the location of your store, or your phone number, or even your operating hours. Don't lose customers to the competitor down the street by not having a website for your store. It's easy to create and maintain a simple site. If you don't have the skills a basic website is relatively inexpensive to have created for you.

Be sure to include the basic information about your dollar store business. That includes name, phone numbers and address. Many will be seeking your hours of operation, so include that information. Be sure to keep it updated as hours change throughout the year. Don't forget to include driving directions as well. After all one of your goals is to make it easy for shoppers to find you.

Once you've included the basics, think about other information to include. For example, do you have a store slogan? If that slogan is something like 'The place you can get everything for a dollar' or 'the store where your dollar goes a long way' or whatever it might be, include that at the bottom. A well developed slogan can be just the thing to motivate customers to enter your dollar store business.

But don't stop there. Another great enhancement could be to include information about upcoming special events in your store. If you have a sidewalk sale coming up, include the dates and some details. Include information about special purchases you've made for the event, or possibly activities that will occur. Let your website provide shoppers with a reason to come to your store.

Finally consider placing newly arrived products on your website. A short description accompanied by a good photo of the most popular items can really enhance the impact of your website. Even more, this can be just the thing to prompt shoppers to return to your store.

Your dollar store business needs to continually be in-front of shoppers and prospective shoppers. A well-design website can be one of the ways you accomplish that challenge. Invest to create a website for your store even before you open for business. Keep your website updated and exciting for viewers. Provide information about your store, and reasons for shoppers to come back.

To your dollar store business success!

Find out how you can open your own dollar store business.

Organic SEO Techniques

Mar 7, 2009
By Neeraj Arora
The Basics

Organic SEO the oretically can save you expenses related to advertising, but you have to take a call because SEO requirements can also oblige you to hire professionals. Advertising requires constant investment, while organic SEO is a one-time investment over a period of a few months. Since Google started auctioning popular keywords to top bidders, advertising is no longer profitable for small businesses.

Advantages of Organic SEO

1. Organic SEO techniques draw more traffic than advertising.
2. Organic SEO techniques reward relevant content, not advertising gimmicks.
3. Because customers are wary of advertised products, they rely more on search engine results to guide them to a relevant website. Therefore, if your website shows up among top search engine results, you win their trust.

Techniques That Work

A good SEO expert can be very useful if you are serious about how your website is ranked on Google, Yahoo, or MSN searches. However, you must always hire an ethical SEO. SEO is not magic and there are no one-size-fits-all formulas here. Each website has different SEO requirements depending on the target audience, nature of website, and budget allocation.

1.Content - Content is king. You do not have to be an SEO magician to be able to generate good content. You do need to be an expert in your business area though, while the ability to draw people in through writing is a bonus. If you are not a writer, hire experts. Content also refers to graphics, design, and various applications on your site.

2.Keywords - The first parameter is the nature of keywords and their variations. When web surfers look for information on vacuum hoses, chances are they will also look up "vacuum cleaners", "cheap vacuum cleaners", and "home appliances". Being creative helps. The next parameter is keyword density. Remember that Google penalizes pages with a keyword density of more than 5 percent.

3.Site Navigation - Good site navigation invites visitors to explore the website further; poor site navigation sends them off to other websites, probably your competitors'.

4.Other factors - The other organic SEO techniques include extensive page interlinking, robot txt files, meta tags, and URL tweaking.

Organic SEO techniques require hard work, creativity, and diligence. However, if your website is genuine and you are not afraid of being scrutinized for relevance, organic SEO might turn out to be the more rewarding option for you.

Marketing During An Economic Downturn

Mar 5, 2009
We're seeing lots of questions on blogs, tweets and mainstream media reports about how the current economic downturn is going to impact marketing. The impact on our daily newspapers in virtually every major market in America has been well documented. (According to eMarketer, US newspaper ad revenues are expected to drop 42.5% in the next seven years.) Marketing budgets are being slashed, yet the pressure to increase revenue is only more intense and marketing executives are feeling the heat.

Marketing Sherpa has put together a great overview that analyzes how marketing departments across the country are dealing with the challenges of marketing during an economic downturn. 30% of those surveyed reported that they plan to increase direct marketing investments as a result of the current economic conditions, including specific increases in direct mail, event marketing and telemarketing. As one survey respondent said, "Heavier investing in direct mail and online is working well since many competitors are reducing marketing investments, and our collective share of voice is increasing our sales".

Traditional media, on the other hand, is not going to fare as well. 59% of respondents reported a planned decrease in budgets for TV and radio while 44% plan a print advertising decrease.

If you are looking for more measurable marketing options, direct mail is a great way to target former customers and those prospects who are most likely to become new customers.

FishDirectMail.com is currently helping our customers explore building lists of new prospects based on analysis of current customer databases. We're also helping customers explore personalized message targeting utilizing variable printing and PURLs to differentiate from the competition and increase ROI tracking and measurement.

Your Domain Name - How Important It Really Is For Your Website

One of the most important steps in creating your website is to choose a Domain Name.

A Domain Name is the address of your website on the Internet. It consists of up to 67 basic characters. You can't use any special characters, e.g. #, &, etc. in your Domain Name, only letters and numbers. You can, however, use underscores and hyphens to separate the words.

Your Domain Name should be relatively short (three words or less) and also be easy to remember and spell. Imagine trying to find the following website on the Internet: rememberpetsthebeststoreontheinternet.com. This looks like a long version of some of the vanity license plates on cars - and you know how hard they are to decipher! If you use a long Domain Name, your visitors will have to really look hard to determine what your name really is.

It is a good idea to actually spell certain Domain Name words that people will use to search for your website. For example, if you want your domain name to be 'happiness through candy.com', you have a better chance of getting traffic by using the word 'through' rather than 'thru'.

But don't be surprised if you find a website called 'happinessthrucandy.com'. There are many people out there who will jump at the chance to register any misspellings of popular Domain Names and grab your visitors. So, try to register both Domain Names to be sure that you get all of the traffic.

Adding hyphens between the words of your Domain Name lessens the chance of people misreading your actual name. Consider the first above example of a long Domain Name. If you added hyphens it would look like: remember-pets-the-best-store-on-the-internet.com. Not a great choice for a Domain Name but at least it is readable and more memorable than the first example without hyphens.

You should always register your Domain Name with the extension of '.com' which means that your website is commercial. This is what most people expect to see when searching for your website although it is also a good idea to try to register your Domain Name with '.net' and '.org' extensions for added protection. If someone has your Domain Name ending in '.net' you could easily lose visitors which could lead to fewer sales.

It is relatively easy to register your Domain Name. There are many Domain Name Services who will check the availability of your selected Domain Name and, if the name is already being used, they will give you a number of available website names using your keywords in the Domain Name. You can then choose another name and register it as your Domain Name.

Most Domain Name Services have monthly, yearly or multiple yearly fees. They are generally inexpensive and you should take advantage of the many sales that are often offered. Just Google 'domain names' and you will get a large number of websites from which to choose to register your Domain Name.

Domain Name registration is one of the most important steps when creating your website.

Search Engine Optimisation (Optimization)

Mar 4, 2009
Hello, Hello. Is anyone there?
That is, exactly, what a business website can feel like if it has not been optimised for search engines.

You may have a great product or service to sell. You may, even, have the world’s greatest looking website, but, if no one knows you are out there, in World Wide Web land, you have wasted a potential chance to reach, tens, hundreds or, perhaps, thousands of new customers. Not very good for business and not very good for you.
But, I hear you say, the internet is supposed to be where everyone goes these days to check and buy products. Yes it is.

"But, we set up our website months ago. Colin (our sales rep) is really into computers, so, he was asked to set up our company site and the website looks great. So, why aren’t we inundated with clients?"
"Did, er, Colin use SEO when he designed your website?"
"No, he used a computer."

Search Engine Optimisation:
Search engines collect information from websites to enable them to increase the relevancy and speed in which it can supply results when a search term is entered. Your business website must provide content on your website that allows search engine crawlers (spiders or bots) to discover exactly what you are selling or the service you are providing by regularly updating the contents of your web pages, which must include keywords and phrases relevant to your business. This is known as making your website search engine friendly. This then allows search engines to place your website in the correct results category and at an appropriate level or page ranking. Search engines display results in the order that they view to be the most pertinent to the searchers requirements.

Bearing in mind that a website that is updated with appropriate content frequently will have a page ranking much higher than a website that had perfectly adequate search engine optimisation in place when it was set up in 1998, but, that has not been updated since.

UK internet marketing (UKIM) are specialists in search engine optimisation for business websites and by designing or editing your website they can improve your page ranking, making your website appear higher within the natural search results and increase visitors to your website, thus, improving your return on investment and letting poor old Colin back to what he does best, selling your products.

Google Local Search Engine Optimisation (Optimization) - Seo

It is imperative for any business with an internet presence, which wishes to compete with other businesses that sell similar products, to have their business website optimised for search engines.

SEO allows search engines to inform, potential, new customers know that you are out there and ready to do business. This can increase visitors to your website by tens, hundreds and, maybe, thousands and if you are a global company or your customers are entirely internet based that is great news, but, if on the other hand, your business has physical premises and are lead-based, then Search engine optimisation may be the answer to your company’s prayers.

Ideally your business wants and needs to advertise locally, within your targeted area, and wishes only to attract visitors that will, potentially, become new clients.
By engineering your business website to be search engine optimised to reach only local internet users, your business stands a much greater chance of increasing your customer base.
With a Google local search engine optimisation strategy incorporated into your business website, your company can reach a market that is currently looking for what your business is selling. This approach to marketing your business, online, involves utilising keywords that point to a specific place, county or region, as well as, keywords or phrases relevant to your products or services:

* Dressmaker in Halifax
* South-West D.I.Y suppliers
* Cathy’s toyshop in Lancashire

By using location keywords, in addition, to your business keywords, when an internet user enters a phrase, including locality and keywords, Google will present these results higher on a page than websites with a more generic description. So, Cathy’s toyshop in Lancashire will be placed higher on Google’s result page than toyshop would because your website is considered, by Google, to have more relevance to the searcher.

Google local search engine optimisation may not offer a business thousands of visitors, but, what it does offer is people ready to provide their custom, who are looking for the right company… Your company.

UKIM are experts in online marketing strategies for businesses wishing to get ahead in internet advertising. Their Google local search engine optimisation approach to your business will ensure that, not only, will you benefit from Google map inclusion, but, will gain valuable, new, locally based customers, too.

How To Handle File System Problems That Are Un-Repairable For Fsck

Mar 3, 2009
A Linux file system is the metadata structure that Linux uses to keep record of files on the hard drive that is the way in which the files are arranged on the hard drive. Every file system has a component based complex design and they are prone to corruption.

For smooth running of your system, the validity and correctness of the file system is extremely important. If your file system has any problems like corruption, you can not access data from your hard drive and thus encounter data loss problems.

You can check the validity and correctness of a Linux file system using fsck command. This command can be used for repairing any minor issues it finds and for alerting the user if it finds any unrepairable errors.

The code for implementing the file system is debugged pretty effectively, therefore it is very easy for fsck to detect the problems. The problems are generally caused by user errors, improper system shutdown, virus infection and other similar reasons.

Modern Linux file ystems are setup for running fsck automatically during boot process so that it can detect the errors and can correct them. If your file system is not setup to do this, then you need to identify the problems and then run fsck manually.

If you use a corrupted file system, it may make the situations even more rigorous. If the metadata structures get corrupted and you are still using them, it will affect them even more and may result as large scale data loss.

Though fsck is helpful in some situations, but it can not fix severe corruption problems. In these scenarios, you need to go for Linux Recovery to recover your data and remain in control of you Linux system.

Linux Data Recovery is best possible using third party applications known as Linux Recovery software. These software are capable of thoroughly scanning your hard drive, finding all your lost data to achieve complete Data Recovery Linux.

Stellar Phoenix Linux Data Recovery is the most comprehensive and commanding Linux Recovery tool that yields best Linux Recovery in all possible cases of data loss. It supports Linux Data Recovery from Ext2, Ext3 and ReiserFS file system volumes. Phoenix Linux Recovery is compatible with Debian, Red Hat, SUSE and several other Linux distributions.

Choosing A Broadband Provider

Mar 2, 2009
Why take the time to compare Broadband Providers? Aren’t all Broadband Providers essentially the same? It is not just those who are new to the Internet who think in this way. You see an advert on the TV for a Broadband Provider who is promising an all singing, all dancing service and think ‘That sounds great… where do I sign up?’.

However, it is essential to know what you are getting before agreeing to a service, so you may be wandering what main points you should look at when doing a comparison…

• Speed: The desire for a fast connection is fuelled by online gaming and services such as Limewire and iTunes. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the actual speeds available to you. Take note that you are far from guaranteed to get the speeds advertised and ‘Up to…’ will become an all too familiar term.

• Reliability: In addition to a fast connection, be sure to consider reliability. A fast connection is essential if you are planning on making use of a service like BBC’s iPlayer, but if your connection isn’t stable it will render the programs unwatchable.

• Download Capacity: Whilst the number of Broadband Providers offering unlimited downloads is growing, this shouldn’t be taken for granted. Many services still have a cap on the amount you can download, and when mixed with a fast connection this can be used up quickly. However, take note that even so called ‘Unlimited’ deals occasionally come with a ‘Fair Use’ policy which prevents excessive downloading.

• Customer Service: Even if you pick out a service which ticks all the boxes, imagine you have a problem regarding the service once it has been installed, and then you are forced to sit in a queue on a premium rate number only to be given the wrong information. Be sure to read customers reviews prior to signing up, and you’ll have a sneak peak at the service you can expect.

Compare broadband, and run a broadband speed test online to ensure you have the cheapest and most efficient broadband on the market.

Why Firewall Security Is Necessary To Protect Your Network

In your car, the firewall sits between the engine compartment and the front seat and is built to keep you from being burned by the heat of the combustion process. Your computer has a firewall, too, for much the same reason – to keep you and your data from being burned by hackers and thieves who are the unfortunate creators of "Internet combustion" and destruction.

The firewall, a "combo" approach of software that regulates and monitors hardware and communications protocols, is there to inspect network traffic and all the "packets" of information that pass through to your inner sanctum, your CPU and hard drives. A firewall will rule out the possibility of harm, or at least greatly minimize, by noting and quarantining potentially harmful "zones" and will either deny or permit access to your computer based on the current set of rules that applies at the time, depending on many (very many) factors.

Basic tasks and settings

The basic task for a firewall is to regulate of the flow of traffic between different computer networks that have different "trust levels." The Internet is full of countless overlapping zones, some safe and some totally deadly. On the other hand, internal networks are more likely to contain a zone or zones that offer a bit more trust. Zones that are in between the two, or are hard to categorize, are sometimes referred to as "perimeter networks" or, in a bit of geek humor, Demilitarized Zones (DMZ).

Without proper configuration, a firewall can simply become another worthless tool. Standard security practices call for a "default-deny" firewall rule, meaning that the only network connections that are allowed are the ones that have been explicitly okayed, after due investigation. Unfortunately, such a setup requires detailed understanding of network applications and a great deal of time and energy to establish and administer.

Who can do what?

Many businesses and individuals lack sufficient computer and network knowledge to set up a default-deny firewall, and will therefore use a riskier but simpler "default-allow" rule, in which all traffic is permitted unless it has been specifically blocked for one of a number of possible reasons. This way of setting up a firewall makes "mysterious" and unplanned network connections possible, and the chance your system may be compromised becomes much more likely.

Firewall technology had its first growth period in the computer technology revolution of the late 1980s, when the Internet was a fairly new in terms of its global reach and connectivity options. The predecessors to today’s hardware/software hybrid firewalls were the routers used in the mid 1980s to physically separate networks from each other. However small the Internet began, it was ultimately undone by supremely fast growth and the lack of security planning, and therefore there were the inevitable breaches caused by older ("prehistoric") firewall formats. Fortunately, computer pros learn from their errors, and the firewall technology continues improving daily.
